Holidays

I just landed in my hometown, in Rural Kentucky, USA. It's nice seeing the parents. I just finished some online shopping, I'm quite pleased with the things I get to give away.

There isn’t much to do in Rural Kentucky, but I'm looking forward to a specific wave of junk food. Portland is great but it doesn’t have White Castle, or trashy Chinese buffets, as far as I know.

Tech

I’ve been on the plateau (happily) of web dev for a while now. I feel good about it. The job is still letting me do what I want, which is great.

I started poking at game dev again, oh so lightly. I’m working my way through the Godot documentation. I have to make a decision on game dev, based on all the self-help books I’ve read. Yes or no? The answer should not be “someday, if I get around to it”. Either yes or no is acceptable. Web dev was a yes. Poker was a no. Let’s spend some time making a game and see if I like it.

Reading

I’ve slowed down on reading a bit, but I have read a few. So many of them end with “and then you stopped reading books, and started actually doing things.” I like the general sentiment but it’s funny imagining so many authors ending their books with that idea.

I read Derek Sivers’ Useful Not True last month but it’s not on Google Books, so I can’t jam it in to the library, as my site assumes a Google Books id. I will read it again (it’s short and great) and write a little review, and either wait until it’s on Google Books, or revamp the site to handle different links.
